Are you obsessed with marriage of convenience and enemies to lovers tropes in romance novels? Guess what? We have a Very Exciting event for you featuring two local leaders of the romance genre!
Join local romance author Dame Jodie Slaughter and Shelf Love Podcast host Andrea Martucci in conversation as they talk about White Whiskey Bargain — an enemies to lovers multicultural romance novel that takes place in small-town Appalachia. You won’t wanna miss this steamy read!
The sudden and tragic death of her mother throws Hannah Hawkins into a position she doesn't feel at all prepared for. With the duty of leading her family's decades-long moonshining business weighing heavy on her shoulders, the last thing she needs is something making her transition even harder. Unfortunately, that's exactly what she gets. A band of vicious new players has arrived in small-town Harlan, Kentucky, and while what they really want remains a mystery, it quickly becomes clear they're willing to stoop to dark lengths to get it. To fight off a beast, Hannah realizes she needs to join forces with a rival.
Javier Meza may be the sole heir to his family's moonshining empire, but he's certainly no leader. He has no head for business or diplomacy, preferring to spend his days in the trenches, making corn liquor with the rest of the "cooks." That doesn't mean he isn't more than willing to step up and take charge when his family finds themselves in danger. Forming a shaky partnership with the Hawkins family is one thing, but marrying Hannah Hawkins to keep their deal on the straight and narrow is something else entirely.
From All Things Burn author, Jodie Slaughter comes a multicultural romance about illegal white whiskey, a marriage of convenience between decades-long rival families, and Black Appalachia. Readers of Kenya Wright, Theodora Taylor, and Lucy Score & Claire Kingsley will enjoy this full-length romance novel with a strong heroine, swoon-worthy hero, and a very satisfying HEA.
Jodie Slaughter is a twenty-something romance author who spends most of her days hunched over a computer for her day job and her nights hunched over a different computer for her novels. While her back is definitely suffering, she wouldn’t have it any other way. She loves love, so she writes romance novels full of heart, passion, and heat. When she isn’t putting steamy scenes or declarations of devotion on the page she can normally be found being generally hilarious on twitter, dreaming about brisket, or consuming way too much television.
Andrea Martucci has always loved thinking about why people do what they do and how the stories people are surrounded by shape them, their perceptions, and their behavior. At 12 years old, Andrea read her first romance novel. Now, over two decades later, she is still fascinated by how romance novels, among other forms of fiction, explore romantic love and other important relationships.
Andrea started her career in publishing as managing editor of a literary magazine, and was an affiliated faculty member at Emerson College, which is also where she earned a BA in Writing, Literature, and Publishing and MA in Marketing Communications. Over the course of her career, she gravitated towards marketing, which is where she continues to develop her passion for telling stories persuasively and trying to figure out what people want and why they do what they do!
When she’s not podcasting, reading, or writing about romance in fiction, Andrea also enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, and her two cats, Maggie & Jake. She lives north of Boston, MA, USA.
