This is my favorite book EVER. It's a wild ride with a very untrustworthy, slightly unhinged narrator trying to figure out the death of his mother, and how he ended up covered in blood the same night, and his quest to learn his truth.

It's a novel in three parts. A women has a horrible dream about animals and chooses to stop eating meat. But everyone around her has an opinion about her body and her choices, and the novel is never told from her perspective, but from those of her husband, brother in law, and sister, as they judge and watch her fall to pieces.

Human Acts: A Novel Cover Image
$17.00
ISBN: 9781101906743

Published: Hogarth - October 17th, 2017

This novel is wild. It takes place during the real life Gwangju Uprising, and where Han grew up. The government was sent in during this uprising after college students were protesting martial law, and the city took up arms against the government who killed these students. The event is a huge tragedy and to this day it is still unknown how many were killed or missing. Han Kang and her translator bring this story to life through several perspectives, time jumps, and tense changes (you, yes second person you, are a dead body in a pile of bodies). I love this book.

An English debut from Park Sang-young. This was a runaway best seller in Korea when it came out, with a bonkers 9 printings. It's a look into life and love in Seoul. The main character is left taking care of his mother and finding companionship in the men he meets on tinder. It's a look into the loneliness of millennials, and a celebration of queer joy (!!!!)
